and History of Hentzen Coatings Inc.
Hentzen Coatings Inc. established
in 1923 headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is a manufacturer of specialty
Liquid and Powder Coatings for the Industrial, Defense and Aerospace markets.
Hentzen is recognized as one of the largest privately owned coatings companies
in North America, and on July 19th, 2013 Hentzen proudly celebrated its 90th
anniversary amongst customers, suppliers and employees. Hentzen's Milwaukee facility includes its
corporate offices, liquid/powder production facilities and state of the art
distribution center combining for a total of 225,000 square feet. Additional liquid manufacturing locations
include Batavia, IL and Greenville, SC with an additional powder coating
manufacturing facility in Clearwater, FL.
Hentzen's evolution as a
coatings supplier is marked with many key milestones throughout its 90 years of
existence. In response to the Federal
Clean Air Act of the 1970's and OSHA's regulatory restrictions on the use of
proven inorganic based pigments, Hentzen began to develop high solid
two-component epoxies and urethanes to replace the alkyds used previously. The first major truck manufacturer in North
America to change to these new chemistries utilized Hentzen's newly developed
technology. Two-component Epoxies and
Urethanes remain a key component of Hentzen's core product offering to this
day. In the 1990's Hentzen responded to
the call of the U.S. Military by rapidly developing and producing new chemical
resistant liquid coatings with an Infrared signature to help solve the problem
of friendly fire. This accomplishment
was featured on the front page of the Sunday edition of the Washington
Post. In the mid 1990's Hentzen once
again recognized the changing demands of the market and began producing powder
coatings. Today, Hentzen has two
dedicated powder coating facilities.
Major accomplishments in powder include, but are not limited to:
patented wrinkle finish chemistry, unique heat-resistant materials, outstanding
marine coatings for outboard motors,
Combat Grade(tm) CARC powder primers and the recent approval of the
first and only CARC powder topcoat by the U.S. Department of Defense.
Since 2003, Hentzen
Coatings, Inc. has also grown via acquisition of four different entities
including: 2003 - acquired the aerospace division of Adheron Coatings; 2004 -
acquired BASF's coatings manufacturing and R&D facilities in Batavia IL
including BASF's container and pipe coating product lines; 2010 - acquired Axon
Products in Greenville SC to broaden product lines in aerospace and specialty
wood finishes; 2013 - acquired Crosslink Powder Coatings in Clearwater, FL to
expand production capacity and market reach in the architectural and industrial
powder coating segments.
Hentzen strives to lead the
coatings industry through value based innovation and customer focus, which will
continue to dynamically drive growth and success for both Hentzen Coatings and
