Electrochemical Investigations in the Development of High Performance Coatings

Join the CCAI Wisconsin chapter for this informative presentation.  The speakers will review electrochemical techniques for corrosion and materials degradation assessment along with real-world results of the use of those techniques to study a next generation powder coating. Electrochemical techniques have been utilized in the past few decades as important methods in the study of corrosion and coating degradation.  Electrochemical techniques allow for the determination of changes in material properties, which often occur prior to visual changes and provide information regarding corrosion mechanisms.  Indeed, by using these techniques, such as Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), important mechanistic information regarding protection/failure transitions can be determined.  EIS, along with the many other electrochemical techniques, provide one with information that is far superior to the historical corrosion assessment.

About Dr. Vicki Gelling
Dr. Gelling is a Technical Director in Performance Coatings at The Valspar Corporation in Minneapolis, MN.  At Valspar, she is has responsibilities in the Electrocoating, Liquid Advanced Platforms, and corrosion laboratories. Before her time at Valspar, she was an Associate Professor in the Department of Coatings and Polymeric Materials at North Dakota State University.  She gained a B.S. in Chemistry at the University of North Dakota then completed a doctorate in Chemistry at North Dakota State University.
